New concrete needs careful treatment in its first weeks, and good care sets up decades of performance. Keep the surface free from foot traffic for at least 24 to 48 hours, and avoid vehicles for about seven days, or as your concreter advises. Protect the slab from rain, and keep it damp in hot Brisbane weather so it cures evenly and does not crack. Avoid spilling oil, paint or chemicals on the fresh surface. Concrete continues to gain strength for about 28 days, so avoid heavy loads during this time.

After curing, apply a quality sealer to reduce staining and moisture absorption, and reseal every few years. Keep control joints clear, and inspect the slab regularly for cracks.
